Inspector arrested for abating ex-minister Gupta in extortion case

Police have arrested an inspector on charge of abating former minister Shyam Sundar Gupta, who was accused of extortion. Inspector Anil Pandit of Lalitpur police was also found to have demanded Rs 5 million in kickback from the former minister, who was arrested yesterday. According to police, former Minister Gupta allegedly tried to extort an undisclosed amount from Tara Regmi, one of the accused in the Gita Koirala murder case. Regmi was reported to have extra-marital affair with Koirala’s husband Ranjan, now serving time for the murder. Ranjan Koirala and Gupta were once prisonmates when Gupta was serving time in another extortion case.
